Who is Clive Derby-Lewis?
Clive Derby-Lewis (pictured) is currently in prison for his role in the murder of South African Communist Party (SACP) general-secretary Chris Hani. Mr. Hani was shot in 1993 and died on his driveway at his home in Johannesburg, just one year before South Africa held its first democratic elections.
Another man, Janusz Walus, was also arrested for Mr. Hani's politically motivated murder. Mr. Walus is also in prison, and also serving a life sentence like Mr. Derby-Lewis.
Business Day reported that a decision on whether Mr. Derby-Lewis would be released from jail on medical parole, would be made on Friday.
This comes after Mr. Derby-Lewis was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer and given less than one year to live.
Meanwhile, Limpho Hani (Mr. Hani's widow) told the SABC that she still wanted to know the whole story behind her husband's death..
