UNHCR slams Trump's Islamophobic comments
Johannesburg - The UN refugee agency (UNHCR) has warned that sentiments expressed in the US presidential campaign are harmful to the refugee resettlement program in America (watch in the video below)
Although not directly responding to Republican frontrunner Donald Trump's call to bar Muslims from entering the US, UNHCR spokeswoman Melissa Fleming reiterated that their programme is an unbiased one.
Mr. Trump's comment was: "We need a total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States while we figure out what the hell is going on."
Meanwhile, the New York Times has reported that 4 million Syrian people have fled their country since the start of war in 2011. The newspaper quoted Ms. Fleming as saying: "The population includes elderly people, others who are sick or wounded, children, women and others who are vulnerable and need help."
