Special Clive Rice beer bottle isn't for fans, says SAB
Johannesburg - Fans of cricket legend Clive Rice will not be able to buy specially labelled bottles of Castle Lager beer.
This, according to Errol Madlala, Sponsorship Manager at South African Breweries.
Mr. Madlala told Newsful a short while ago that Cricket SA had ordered the special bottles for a memorial for Mr. Rice, who died from septicemia last week Tuesday.
Mr. Madlala could not confirm how many bottles were produced for the special occasion. He said he did not process the order.
According to him, anybody could order special labels to be printed. Madlala said this could be done through their partnership with NetFlorist.
Earlier, former Proteas spin bowler Pat Symcox, posted a picture on Facebook lauding the special tribute paid to Mr. Rice.
Mr. Madlala said Mr. Rice was the first captain of the national cricket squad when South Africa was allowed back into international cricket and SA Breweries wanted to honour him for his contribution to the game.
In the past, SAB has printed special labels for cricket greats like Jacques Kallis, Graeme Smith, Bafana Bafana head coach Ephraim "Shakes" Mashaba and others.
