SA teen off to Hollywood
Johannesburg - Dainfern College student, Skye Goss, is about to do something she's always dreamed of doing -- she's going to Hollywood to compete in the World Championships in Performing Arts.
The championships are set for July and it's a role Skye has been preparing for intensely.
The Weekend Argus reported this weekend that Skye has already earned huge respect in South Africa by scoring the highest individual score (of 97 percent) at the South African Junior Grand Championships of Performing Arts in Rustenburg in March. The newspaper reported that she received the top award for performances across all categories.
Skye told the publication that going to Hollywood and performing before "different audiences" is something "incredible”.
The newspaper quoted her as saying: “I’m mainly going for the experience. I want to achieve so much and show other South African kids what’s possible. I want to see as many people as possible and hopefully be recognised by a scout.
“More than anything, I just want to experience everything fully. I have always dreamed of being in Hollywood and it’s a dream coming true. I just want to take it all in. I told my mom that being on stage is what I wanted to do with my life.”
Interestingly, Skye's mom is former Miss South Africa winner Suzette van der Merwe.
Skye is currently in Grade 7 at Dainfern College. Her stage coach is Jill Avis.
