Real estate agent saves child from father's deadly grip
Roodepoort, Johannesburg - A quick-thinking member of the public, who raced to a house in Roodepoort in Johannesburg this morning to save the life of a child, has been hailed a hero.
At around 10am, founder of eBlockwatch Andre Snyman, posted an urgent message to his group with the address of the child who was apparently being held hostage by the suspected father. Snyman posted that the child was seated on the father's lap and that he (the father) had been holding a gun to the youngster's head. In a post shortly thereafter, Mr. Snyman confirmed that a gun was not pointed at the child.
Mr. Snyman's message for help was quickly responded to by Monica Coetzee, a real estate agent and member of several security groups on Facebook. Ms. Coetzee said members of the South African Police Service had arrested the man and discovered "narcotics and unlicensed firearms" at the house.
She said the was child saved.
By evening, the message had attracted the attention of several eBlockwatch members, enquiring about the child's safety. Mr. Snyman had publicly thanked Ms. Coetzee for her bravery and for responding to the call for help. Several others concurred.
