Isidingo actor adds his voice to calls for Zuma's removal

Johannesburg - One of South Africa's most recognised actors, Jack Devnarain, has added his voice to the cacophony of calls for President Jacob Zuma to remove himself or be removed from the leadership of this country. 

In a widely received Facebook post, Mr. Devnarain wrote on Thursday:

Health academics call for suspension of Wild Coast mining

KwaZulu-Natal - Following the assassination of Sikhosiphi "Bazooka" Rhadebe, the heads of the schools of public and community health at five universities have written to the Minster of Mineral Resources, Mosebenzi Zwane, calling for the suspension of mining in the Amadiba area on the Wild Coast. They have sent a similar letter to the Minister of Health, Aaron Motsoaledi.

WATCH: Gas AND petrol explosion destroys KZN station

Durban - An eyewitness has captured dramatic footage of a petrol tanker in flames at a Shell Ultra City in KwaDukuza, about 66KM north of Durban.

The incident happened on Sunday morning, near the Mvoti Toll Plaza. 

KwaZulu-Natal Emergency Medical Services spokesperson Robert McKenzie said extensive damage was caused, but miraculously, no one was injured. 

Three trucks -- one of them a petrol tanker -- and two homes were damaged. (continued below)

Shootout at Phoenix shopping mall after two attempted robbies

Durban - An armed gang of approximately 12 to 15 robbers struck a cash transit vehicle at the Whitehouse Shopping Centre in Phoenix, north of Durban, on Thursday.

According to a source, who asked not to be named for fear of reprisals, the armed gang severely damaged the vehicle. It was unclear if they had taken any money.

Other members then entered the mall, allegedly to rob another store. They opened fire on shoppers, wounding five, before escaping the scene.

Zandspruit: Protesters vow to tear down bridge next

Johannesburg - Residents of Zandspruit Informal Settlement have vowed to tear down a multi-million rand pedestrian bridge (pictured in the background of the main image) if their demand for formal electricity is not met.

On Wednesday afternoon, residents gathered once more to call on Mayor Parks Tau to come to the area so he could listen to their grievances.

They vowed that if he didn't come, they would continue to riot. 

Two police Nyalas and several response teams were at the scene.
