Actor Anton Dekker's tribute to his late wife will move you to tears
Renown SA television actor Anton Dekker took to Facebook last week with a tribute to his late wife that moved many to tears.
His wife Karen, who was a Specialist Language Practitioner at Discovery, passed away suddenly last week Wednesday. She was 51.
In her last post before she unexpectedly died, Karen thanked her husband and family for taking care of her. She commented: "Have a horrid bout of bronchitis and middle ear infection, which with very low blood pressure is taking its toll on me. Haven't felt so bad before though. I cannot walk a few steps without having to stop to catch my breath and stop the world spinning." (continued below)
Her response was in reply to a post in which she thanked her husband and children for taking care of her. "Ain't that the truth. I know I wouldn't have got through it without the love and care of my gorgeous family. A special hug to my hubby Anton and Laura for everything. I'm [pretty] sure I'm not the easiest patient but I'm also positive tomorrow I'll ace those stairs! Love you loads."
"Tomorrow", however, never came for Karen.
On Thursday, morning Anton posted a picture of his wife, writing on his Facebook page:

Suddenly it is very quiet. With rain drops falling rhythmic on the earth, this intense loneliness is overwhelming me. It is never a good time to die. For the best part of my life you were me best friend, my lover, my wife, the mother of my children, my mentor, my guide, my prophet, my priest, my doctor, my gentle shoulder to lean on, and now you are gone.
The angel of death came suddenly and brutally, but he made a gross mistake. He took the wrong soul. You are the one true earth angel. Your gentleness and compassion for every living being was unsurpassed. You taught me what true humanness was all about. Your deep committed compassion for me and your children Nadia, Morgan andLaura was unsurpassed, but also for your friends, colleagues and many, many people that did not even know your name. How will we all live without your healing hugs? Your trips into dark alleys in winter with your poly-cups of hot soup for the homeless and destitute.
How do I live without you? I hear my child crying in her room, but I'm too scared to walk in and give her a hug, because I'm scared I'll burden her with my own brokenness. The spaniel runs sniffing up and down the passage, looking, searching. I'm also searching. Searching for the reality in this insanity!
You were always my teacher my beautiful pink angel. You rescued me from myself, and kept my feet planted firmly on the ground. Please look down on me now, and teach me one last time. Teach me how to carry on. Teach me how to put one foot in front of the other. Teach me how I can support and love and guide our children, the three beautiful monuments to your greatness.
For the rest of my days on this earth, I will honour and love you. I will honour and cherish you memory. I will tell the world what a great human being was taken from us. Take the lead now my beautiful pink angel, and show me how to walk in your shadow!
I will always love you!
