Man to swim in the Antartic ocean... again!
He's called the human polar bear after breaking a record and becoming the the first person to ever swim to the North Pole.
Now, Lewis Pugh (pronounced: Loo-wis Pew) is going to try to break another record with a 5 kilometre swin in the Antartic.
According to the Independent, Mr. Pugh will be swimming in waters that could be as cold as around -1.7 degrees Celcuis. And, he'll only be wearing a swimming cap and his swimming shorts.
The reason Mr. Pugh is taking on this challenge is to get the attention of world leaders. He wants them to protech an areas called the Ross Se from human invasion and destruction (watch the video below for more information on this). According to the Independent, the Ross Sea, located in the Southern Ocean in Antarctica, contains marine species found nowhere else in the world and is almost completely free from pollution. It's easy to understand why Mr. Pugh wants to to keep the area that way.
Mr. Pugh will set out to swim 5 one kilometre over the course of five weeks.
*Newsful will be tracking his performance during that time. and you can watch updates right here on this website.
