Gotta love these Starbucks lovers
Johannesburg - No, you're not insane. Starbucks is really coming to South Africa.
The brand announced today that it will be opening its first sub-Saharan Africa store in the city, through a partnership with Taste Holdings.
No specific details were given, but Starbucks said it expects to make it's first cuppa during the first half of 2016. Better latte than never.
According to the agreement with Taste Holdings, they are allowed to open several stores on the continent and have a licensing agreement that lasts for 25 yeas.
South Africans can expect locally-brewed items like Rooibos and a specialised menu to meet the local demand.
According to Fortune, "Starbucks has only a few locations in northern Africa, located in Casablanca and Cairo." The publication also reported that "the chain’s expansion into southern Africa will be something of a homecoming for the coffee beans it sells, a large portion of which hail from sub-Saharan Africa."
If you didn't catch it earlier, it's time to wake up and smell the coffee ;) Tthe headline is a tease on Taylor's Swifts hit single "Blankspace". The song's lyrics actually read: Got a long list of ex lovers' but it's been widely misquoted as "gotta love these Starbucks lovers" Someone call the lyric police!
