Diet cold drinks not so healthy afterall

Texas, US - New reseach has show that people who are over 65 years old and who drink diet cold drinks everyday, tend to store more fat in their waist when compared to people who drink other beverages.

Scientists say the drinks labeled as 'diet' could actually contribute to chronic illnesses that accompany excess stomach fat, for example.

Head researcher, Dr. Sharon P.G. Fowler, found that diet drinks (drinks that usually use artificial sugar sweeteners) caused an increase in the risk of diabetes and even metabolic syndrome Dr. Fowler works at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio.

The study she led observed people over time. She said while her project did not test whether drinking diet cold drinks actually causes an increase in abdominal fat, there was a consistent outcome of increased risk of an expanding waistline.
