David Beckham earns more money AFTER retiring
London - It's been revealed that soccer star David Beckham made about R915 million rand (or roughly 50 million pounds) last year, just one year after he officially retired from football.
The former England captain, who is 39 years old, retired in 2013.
US magazine Forbes placed him second on the list of highest-earning retired athletes after basketball star Michael Jordan. Interestingly , Mr. Jordan earned 67 million pounds last year.
Mr. Beckham played professional football for 20 years. His skill in the sport has seen him become ambassadors for various sporting brands, including the Global Brands Group in Hong Kong. Mr Beckham has also created clothes and luxury goods, through which he earns a sizeable income.
Mr. Beckham is also paid by Adidas, Sky Sports, Breitling watches and Samsung to wear their products. In the industry, this is called an edorsement.
